On March 18 from 10am to 1pm “Seedy-Saturday” is coming to the Victoria Park Senior’s Centre.
The event provides a venue for gardeners to exchange seeds and ideas and learn more about harvesting, sorting and planting seeds.
The event showcases experts in good gardening practices including: Seeds of Diversity, Pollination Guelph, Master Gardeners of Ontario, Seeds Of IMBOLC, Ontario Invasive Plant Council, Hawthorn Farms and Gerrie’s Garden Centre.
Don’t be discouraged if you don’t have seeds to bring; there will be plenty to choose from and vendors will be selling seeds as well.
Seeds of Diversity supports the protection of seed and food biodiversity via education, a comprehensive website, publications and presentations. It also maintains a Canadian Seed library containing over 2,300 regionally-adapted and rare varieties.
As pollinator populations are threatened, so too are many foods and plant products. Pollination Guelph is a group of individuals dedicated to the conservation and development of pollinator habitat.
Master Gardeners of Ontario provides ongoing expert horticultural advice to the general public.
Seeds of IMBOLC’s founder Kat Granger from Fergus is passionate about organic and sustainable gardening.
The Invasive Species Centre of Ontario seeks to control invasive species threatening Canada’s natural ecosystems.
A Children’s Corner will feature some practical demos on seed germination as well as colouring exercises.
