“˜Bearamedics”™ raise funds to help Kenyans

Teresa Evans and Keri Thomas of Guelph Wellington EMS are doing their part to make life a bit more bear-able.

The pair was in Fergus over the weekend selling local “bearamedics” to raise funds for MedicsHELP (Helping Everywhere to Lessen Pain and suffering).

The organization is dedicated to providing continuous volunteer aid and relief work to communities in need in the developing world.

Paramedics offer assistance in countries like Kenya where they stay with host families.

This allows the provision of international deployments of volunteers to work side-by-side with locals in various ongoing health care efforts.

The longer-term goal for all of the projects is self-sustainability.

The idea is to foster an attitude of self-help within the communities the group assists and develop programs that are eventually completely self-sustainable by those communities.

Evans and Thomas quipped these homes might have water or electricity – rarely both and often neither.

The bears fundraiser generates funds to help make that happen. They are available in a number of Centre Wellington locations.

The local deployment of assistance will be in October 2017. For more information contact 519-767-6149 or MedicsHELP.org
