“˜World”™s a Stage”™ for 4-H group

Mapleton 4-H is under way for another year, with the first project “The World is a Stage.”

The first meeting was held on March 28 at leader Lynne Flewwelling’s home.  Drama was the topic. We started with the roll call “What plays have you seen or been in” which was answered by 14 members. We held elections and elected our president Dawson Gray, vice-president and secretary Brianna Flewwelling and press reporter Madison Martin.

Members created a story where each person contributed one word at a time.  Our story was confusing and had no plot line.  Then we were given our groups for our skits that we will be working on and presenting at the end of the club. Next meeting will be April 11 at leader Cathy Dobben’s.

Meeting two of the Mapleton 4-H club.  Socks, glue, buttons and yarn.  That’s all you need to know.

On April 11, the Mapleton 4-H club met for the second drama meeting at Cathy’s.  We talked about the history of puppets and marionettes and than we got to making our own sock puppets. We used colourful socks, yarn buttons and pompoms to make unique puppets, which we will be entering into the Drayton Fair.

We got into our play groups and created an impromptu show to the group using our puppets. They were so much fun and were hilariously original. At the end we picked our plays and read over to work on next week.

Meeting three of the Mapleton 4-H club.  Silence is a virtue, now what better thing could 4-H do than mime.

On April 18, the Mapleton 4-H club met at Cathy’s.

We  took a trip on the quiet side by miming to get our points across. By doing this we figured out acting is more than just speaking.

Equipped with this knowledge, we got to work on our group plays. We ran through plays using expression and movements to perform.

We’re getting more comfortable with our roles so we are able to portray them better. The next meeting was to be held at Lynne’s on April 25.
