From Feb 5 to 7, a group of 22 keen, engaged and dedicated businesses participated in an experiential tourism workshop which included the brainstorming of unique and exciting experience possibilities that promote Elora and Fergus, heritage town charm, arts, culture and nature-based assets.
Centre Wellington and Regional Tourism Organization Four (RTO4) recently announced the launch of the Destination Animation Fund to enable Elora and Fergus businesses, organizations and tourism stakeholders to create new experiences for both visitors and residents.
“Creating collaborative experiences using our stunning and unique scenery, world class arts community and picturesque towns will absolutely set Centre Wellington on the stage as the place to be” said Mayor Kelly Linton.
“Organizations can apply for funds to enhance a current experience or create a new one,” Linton added.
The fund was set-up to support destination experiential projects on a matched basis.
An estimated $10,000 is available for proposals, and individual applications may be for any amount between $500 and $10,000.
A selection committee will review and award the proposals based on a list of criteria.
Projects must be new or enhanced experiences, and funding cannot be applied toward capital or regular operational expenses.
The first deadline for applications was April 19. Applications received after the deadline will be reviewed on a rolling basis; however there is no guarantee that resources will be available after the initial round.
Applicants are strongly encouraged to discuss their project, questions and eligibility before applying by contacting Karen Mitchell at karen@rto4.ca or by phone at 519-271-7000 ext. 202 or Deb Dalziel at 519-846-9691 ext. 380.

Centre Wellington communications coordinator Kendra Martin stated, “This program is in partnership with RT04 and within our existing 2017 approved operating budget in tourism and falls under the marketing budget for tourism and is one of many marketing initiatives we are undertaking this year.”
She explained funding committed by Centre Wellington for this program is $3,500 and the intent is that RT04 at least match that amount.
This funding will act as a catalyst for tourism operators in Centre Wellington to come to the program and apply for funding to support their initiatives specific to the animation of their destination through enabling new or enhanced cultural visitor experiences.
RT04 is the lead organization responsible for this program supported and endorsed by Centre Wellington Elora Fergus Tourism.
