GUELPH-ERAMOSA - The Grand River Conservation Authority will launch Canada 150 celebrations on April 22, Earth Day, at the Guelph Rotary Forest with the planting of a maple grove that will be shaped like a maple leaf and will be visible from the sky.

ROCKWOOD - The Eramosa Eden Retreat Centre in Rockwood has been awarded a Canada 150 Grant to involve local seniors in the celebration of Canada’s sesquicentennial. The name of the project is Canada’s Seniors: Our Roots, Our Future.

Rockwood fire causes $500,000 in damage; firefighter sent to hospital

ROCKWOOD - A fire at a home on Parkinson Drive in Rockwood caused about $500,000 worth of damage on April 18. “(The) fire started in the garage ... but it extended to the house,” Rockwood deputy fire chief Jim Petrik said. He added the fire didn’t “appear suspicious” and, “It looks like the house might be a loss, but it’s still standing.” The fire call came in at noon on Tuesday and about 15 firefighters from the Rockwood and Puslinch fire stations responded to the call.
