Ellis Chapel hosting special services to celebrate 150 years

PUSLINCH TWP.

Monthly summer services have been held each year at Ellis Chapel since its restoration in 1963, but this summer is to be special, as the chapel celebrates 150 years of history.

Located at located on the south side of Ellis Road in the west end of Puslinch Township, this stone church was built in 1861 by local pioneer families and continues to serve as a location for summer worship services, weddings and concerts.

The present-day volunteer Board of Ellis Chapel is ecumenical in nature and is committed to maintaining the building and grounds in keeping with their historical and religious significance.

The Sunday afternoon programs - held this year at 2:30pm on June 19, 17, Aug. 21, and Sept. 18 - will focus on the role the chapel played in the spiritual, cultural and social life of its rural community. Themes include the impact of rural churches on the life of the community. A family barbecue will take place on Aug. 20 from 3 to 7pm in the chapel garden.
