East Wellington Community Services

ERIN

East Wellington Community Services has a lot to celebrate.

The organization recently offered thanks to all those who participated in Erin’s Shamrock Shuffle on May 27.

EWCS marketing and revenue development representative Caroline Turnbull said “The weather was beautiful and the turn-out of runners and walkers was wonderful to see in support of EWCS and Erin District High School’s athletic council.”

Twelve year old Alexander Maycock won the 5km run, Gary Storey won the 10km, and Christine Moor was the fastest walker. Results as well as pictures can be seen on EWCS’s website.

The next group fundraising event is a golf tournament July 10 at Guelph Lakes.

This is the tenth year of the tournament, now the organization’s biggest fundraiser.

People can register as a golfer or sponsor online through a link on www.ew-cs.com or stop into one of the EWCS offices for form.

The cost is $135 and includes 18 holes of golf, a shared cart, barbecue lunch, steak dinner, prizes, awards and silent auction items. Spaces fill-up fast.

EWCS is also seeking two summer students – one to help in the office and one to help in programs. More information including eligibility requirements is available on the website. Resumes can be sent to Marlene by June 15.

EWCS is having a penny drive. From now until the mint stops making them this fall, EWCS will be collecting pennies (and other coins, or bills) in jugs at all of its locations.

Some stores are involved as a collection point.

EWCS will again run Kids to Camp funding to send local kids in need to day camps this summer, such as Erin Hoops Camps, Erin Tennis Camp, and others. Application forms are available in EWCS offices. Applicants must include a camp’s registration form. Funding is limited and filling out an application does not guarantee funding.

For more information call Turnbull at 519-833-9696. Organizations that want to further contribute can drop donations at the Erin office labeled “Kids to Camp Fund.”

The Erin Food Bank is currently in need of: coffee, dry cereal, canned vegetables, canned soup, nutritional bars, Irish stew, cookies, granular white sugar, toilet paper, liquid dish soap and shampoo.

Donations can be dropped off at the bins in the Erin office at 45 Main Street, Erin between 9am-4pm.

Donations of non-perishable goods are always appreciated.
