Quilt raffle fundraiser to support Groves Memorial Community Hospital

FERGUS

What began as a Quilt Block Challenge in honour of the Fergus Fall Fair’s 175th anniversary in 2011 has become a fundraiser for Groves Hospital.

Currently, two quilts are being raffled, with all proceeds to the hospital.

The large star blocks (squares) were made by members of the fair and also of the local Grand Quilt Guild.

Those blocks were judged at the Fall Fair in 2010.

By 2011, the full sized quilt was seen being hand quilted at the Highland Games, the Fall Fair and Harvest Home at the Museum.

The Grand Quilt Guild then donated a large wall hanging. Members made smaller star squares and nine patch blocks.

The project was then sewn together around a creative centre block and machine quilted by Ruth Kennedy, of Dancing Thread Long Arm Quilting, of Fergus.

Now the full size quilt is hanging at Undercover Quilts and More in Fergus and the wall hanging is in the Groves Hospital Gift Shop.

Raffle tickets are selling for $2 each or 3 for $5 and are available from members of the fair board and Quilt Guild.

Tickets are also at the hospital gift shop, various doctor’s offices in the area, Undercover Quilts and More, Almost Anything Wood, Ennotville Garage as well as the Fergus General Store and Market.

The draw will be held at the Fall Fair annual general meeting on Jan 27.
