Man charged with assault after standoff with OPP

FERGUS - After a standoff that lasted several hours, police took a man into custody here last Tuesday night.

On April 3 at about 8:15pm, Wellington County OPP officers responded to a disturbance at a residence on Herrick Street North in Fergus.

Police say a man with a weapon had “barricaded” himself inside the residence and “refused to cooperate with officers.”

The OPP’s Tactics and Rescue Unit, Emergency Response Team and Canine Unit assisted local officers at the call.

Eventually, after a “several hours,” a man “was taken into custody without incident,” police say.

Warren Robert Taylor, 32, of Fergus, was charged with assault with a weapon and mischief under $5,000. He was held for bail court.
