Deadline for local writing contest approaching

ELORA - The deadline for this year’s Elora Writers Festival Writing Contest is looming.

The contest seeks short works of fiction from young authors in Wellington and surrounding counties and regions and from adult writers across the country. The contest features cash prizes for the top three stories in each age category.

To be eligible, entries must be postmarked no later than March 2 - a few weeks earlier than in previous years.

Stories can be written on any theme, topic or genre, but should be original, unpublished fiction.

Category details are as follows:

- Youth age 13 and under: 1,000 words maximum, open to residents of Wellington, Waterloo, Dufferin, Halton and Hamilton-Wentworth counties/regions. No entry fee. Limit two entries per person.

- Teen age 14 to 19: 2,000 words maximum, open to residents of Wellington, Waterloo, Dufferin, Halton and Hamilton-Wentworth counties/regions. No entry fee. Limit two entries per person.

- Adult/open any age, up to and including adults: 2,000 words maximum, open to all Canadian residents, $15 entry fee.

Stories are blind-judged, so the author’s name should not appear on the story itself. On a separate title page, include category, story title, writer’s name, address and email.

Mail entries to EWF Writing Contest, c/o Roxanne’s Reflections, 152 St. Andrew St. W., Fergus ON N1M 1N5.

To qualify, entries must be postmarked by March 2. Stories may also be dropped off at the bookstore until 5 pm on March 2. The winners will be announced during the Elora Writers Festival on May 2.
