Vocal and piano music program opens 2018 Gallery Concert Series

ABOYNE - The exhibition hall of the Wellington County Museum will be warmed on Jan. 14 at 2pm by a program with the theme Love Songs Around The World and Across The Centuries - the first Gallery Concert Series performance this year.

The wide range of compositions  presented will include German lieder, French melodies, classical pieces,  some musical theatre, jazz and pop.

The eclectic program is presented by soprano  Rachel McKay, accompanied on the Yamaha piano by James van der Heide, from the Renaissance School for the Arts in Waterloo.

McKay is a voice instructor at the Beckett School of  Wilfred Laurier University and program coordinator for the Community Music School of Waterloo Region.

A few program highlights include: Après un rêve and Chanson d’amour by Gabriel Fauré, Sapphische Ode by Johannes Brahms, What I Did For Love from Chorus Line, Now Sleeps the Crimson Petal by Robert Quilter and Take Me to the World by Stephen Sondheim.

The piano renditions include Dans les Ruines d’une Abbaye by Gabriel Fauré and Moonlight Sonata by L.v. Beethoven.

This afternoon of music is organized by the not-for-profit Gallery Music Group, with artists donating their talents to make the concert series affordable for all.

Tickets are $10 and are available at the door. Refreshments after the concerts offer an opportunity  to meet the performers and friends.

Admission includes entry to all the museum displays. Youth are welcomed, with tickets of $1 for those under 16 years of age.
