CAMBRIDGE - Local people and groups were recognized for their environmental efforts at the Grand River Watershed Awards and Special Recognition event on Oct. 19.

The evening was jointly organized by the Grand River Conservation Authority and the Grand River Conservation Foundation.

Stuart Wright, a soil conservation leader from Kenilworth, received a 2017 Grand River Watershed Award.

Wright has made an outstanding environmental contribution through involvement in the Ontario Soil and Crop Improvement Association (OSCIA), said officials.

Community Conservation Grants are provided to support environmental projects being undertaken by community groups and elementary schools.

The $500 grants are going to these local groups:

- Arthur Trails Group, for native shrubs planted along the newest trail in Wellington North, the 12km West Luther Trailway; and

- Communitrees, Fergus,  for native trees and tree seedlings that were planted along the Elora Cataract Trailway
