Fire in downtown Fergus

St. Andrew Street was blocked off from Tower Street to Menzies Lane in Fergus for about an hour after an early morning fire on May 14 at a downtown pub. Centre Wellington Fire Chief Brad Patton said that upon arrival, fire crews entered the building with SCBA (self-contained breathing apparatus) as there was zero visibility due to smoke. Patton stated crews extinguished a fire on and in the commercial oven. About 20 firefighters were on the scene and another 10 on standby at the Fergus and Elora stations. Patton estimated the damage at about $20,000, based on restorations, appliance servicing and damaged equipment. He added smoke and heat did most of the damage to the interior of the building, including broken dishes and damages to the commercial oven and a microwave.                     Submitted photos
