Refugees leaving

The Soes are moving to Toronto and, on April 2, the congregation of the Mount Forest United Church along with the United for Refugees Committee that brought the family to Mount Forest, formally said farewell and presented them with gifts. Janice Benson, right, said Thuya, Pone Mein and Cherry “brought a positive attitude, perseverance, diligence and hard work... a willingness to learn and try new things... ingenuity, a friendly spirit and love” when they came to Mount Forest. She reminded them that the United Church members are proud to be their Canadian family and as they move to Toronto,  “We will be beside you in spirit and love every step of the way. We wish you God’s blessing as you start the next part of the adventure,” she said. Pone Mein said she didn’t want to say goodbye, that moving to the city was a difficult decision but that her husband has found a job and Toronto “seemed to offer more opportunities for us.” Cherry was also presented with a box filled with items that will remind her of the Mount Forest Sunday school.  Photo by Lynne Turner
