CLIFFORD - Fifty ladies arrived for a Paint Nite session on Feb. 9 at Knox United Church in Clifford.

Instructor Tess Urbanskie and her assistant Anthony Rietze, studio art students from the University of Guelph helped the ladies turn 50 blank white canvases into 50 paintings of a ‘Blue Moon Cherry Blossom.’

The first lesson was to take the pledge, so with hand firmly placed on the top of the canvas the ladies said the following:

“I promise to relax and have fun, to be creative and artistic, to not whine or complain about my painting, and to not throw my canvas across the room. Rather than pout, I will be proud of my work and most importantly I will have fun.”

Within two hours, four blobs of colour on each plate were transformed into works of art made unique by each artist’s interpretation of the lesson.

Since beginning her Paint Nite teaching in April, Urbanskie has over 100 Paint Nite events to her credit. She hopes to pursue a career in art therapy. Rietze started in September and is pursuing a career in concept art.

Hosts Sharon Prieb, Marg Shannon, and Marion Douglas prepared lunch.
