Township, school board agree to small land transfer

by Chris Daponte

BRUCEDALE - Guelph-Eramosa Township has approved a deal with the Upper Grand District School Board that will transfer a small strip of land in front of Rockwood Centennial Public School from the board to the municipality.

The township will pay $1 for the piece of property, described as part of Lots 91 and 108 and part of Balaclava Street.

Mayor Chris White said the move was necessitated after the township widened the road beside the school, thus requiring the sidewalk be moved closer to the school.

Parks and recreation director Robin Milne said the sidewalk now lies on school board property and officials from both the township and board felt it was in their best interests for the township to take over the property. The school board will pay for the legal fees and all land transfer costs.

Council unanimously approved the land purchase. Councillors David Wolk and Doug Breen were absent.
